Laurinda Spear, FAIA has practiced architecture since 1977 with her husband Bernado Fort- Brescia, in their firm, Arquitectonica. Together, they have pursued an unconventional modernism that is both abstract and romantic, playful as well as dramatic, and forceful. First recognized for its flamboyant contributions to Miami’s skyline in buildings such as the Atlantis, “the building with a hole in the middle”, Arquitectonica has earned a reputation that has spread throughout the world. Today, Arquitectonica has representative work in the United States, Europe, South America and Asia.

Laurinda Spear’s architecture and design projects, widely covered in the international press, have received a number of awards. Among them, AIA Honor Awards, Awards for Excellence in Architecture and Progressive Architecture Design Awards.

“The planets trace rings around the Sun, each one completing a full orbit in a different amount of time in relation to its distance from the Sun. Our most important measurement of time, the year, is based on this full rotation around the Sun. In fact, all our major units of time (day, month, year) are based on different rotation periods.

So, like the planets tracing their various orbits around the Sun, the rings on this watch each move with different rotational speeds to indicate the time. The three concentric circles rotate clockwise with each gap in the circle communicating the precise time. The hour, minute and seconds are defined by the outer, middle and inner rings respectively”.

Still too complicated? Its rather simple. The outer ring’s opening is the hour, the middle ring’s opening is the minute and the inner ring opens to the seconds. Check out the working model below, it becomes self evident!

Laurinda Spear’s new Chroma Watch with mesh stainless steel band is a tour into the dimensions of colorfulness. The seconds minutes and hours pass across the evolving colors of Chroma’s dial displaying a kaleidoscope Munsell measurement (the Munsell Measurement is the standard measure of three dimensions of color: tone, value and color purity).

While Chroma’s numerals change color every second, the hour hand colors merge from one color palette to another more gradually creating beautiful hues of the color spectrum.

Chroma is a 38mm diameter (1.50″) and 8.7mm high (0.34″) unisex watch utilizing Swiss parts. It is made of all brushed stainless steel and is water resistant to 150ft. Chroma comes with a fine mesh stainless steel band and exposing no visible lugs, providing a seamless connection from band to watch case.
